The basics

WHAT IS DUPR, EXACTLY?

DUPR — Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating — is the rating system the whole sport has settled on, from rec players to the pro tour. It puts every player on one scale from 2.000 to 8.000, calculated from the actual scores of the matches you play.

That last part is what makes it different. A self-rating is a guess. A club rating stops at the club gate. A DUPR rating is arithmetic on real results against real opponents — which means a 3.5 here means the same thing as a 3.5 in Dallas or Delray Beach. It updates after every logged match, it accounts for who you played and how close the games were, and it carries a reliability score that climbs as you log more matches.

Practically, it does two things for you. It gets you into events and groups that match your actual level, so you stop playing blowouts in either direction. And it gives you an honest number to move — the most satisfying progress bar in the sport.

HOW TO GET YOUR DUPR RATING.

01

Create a free DUPR account

Takes a couple of minutes. There's no test, no assessment, and no fee — a DUPR account is free for every player, and you keep it wherever you play.

Play matches that get submitted

Your rating only moves on scores that actually reach DUPR. The ladder league is the one format we run that logs them for you — no app-wrangling, no chasing opponents for confirmations. Open play sharpens your game; the league is what puts a number on it.

03

Watch it sharpen

A rating appears after your first logged match and gets more reliable with every result. A league season puts roughly 15 matches on your record — about what three tournaments would.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A SHARK TO PLAY RATED.

There's a myth that DUPR is for tournament players. It isn't. It's for anyone who's curious where they actually stand — and who's tired of "what level are you?" being answered with a shrug.

A big share of our rated players started out unrated. League Director Dan Maclellan reviews unrated players himself and seeds them into the right tier before a season starts, and the opening weeks are built as calibration — mixed, social, and deliberately low-stakes — so nobody's first official match is a mismatch.

If you can serve, keep score, and sustain a rally, you're ready. If you're not there yet, that's genuinely fine — start in open play or a clinic and work up to it.

🪜

The ladder does the sorting

You don't get dropped in with players miles above you. The ladder moves you up or down week to week until you settle at your real level — then the official matches begin. Everyone ends up playing people who make them work without making them miserable.

The format

HOW THE LADDER WORKS.

A ladder is simple: you get placed at a level, your results move you up or down, and once you've settled where you belong, the matches start counting toward your rating.

  1. First

    Find your level

The opening weeks are calibration — mixed, social, and deliberately low-stakes while Director Dan Maclellan sets the initial top-to-bottom order. Nobody's first rated match is based on a guess.

  2. Then

    Matches that count

Once the ladder settles, results get submitted to DUPR. You're matched against players near your own level, and the formats rotate through the season — men's, women's, mixed, and singles.

  3. Throughout

    Climb or regroup

Perform well and you move up the ladder; slide back and you get a week to re-strategise. Where you finish is an honest read on where your game actually is right now.

🎾 Matched by level, not by luck

You play people close to your own standard rather than whoever happens to be free. That's the whole point of a ladder — and it's what makes the rating that comes out of it worth having.

👥 Solo sign-up, partner flexibility

You register as an individual and we handle pairings. Want to play with someone specific? You'll overlap on court, provided you're at a similar level.

🤝 Unrated players reviewed by hand

No DUPR yet? Dan Maclellan reviews and approves unrated players personally so the tiering is accurate from day one.

🌧️ Rain gets a plan

Nashville in late summer does what it does. The season reserves make-up time at the end of the schedule, so a washed-out night shifts the calendar instead of cancelling your matches.

WHY PLAY YOUR RATED MATCHES HERE?

Nashville has plenty of places to hit a ball. Very few run rated play properly.

🏟️
12 dedicated courts, under lights

Purpose-built outdoor pickleball courts plus a covered pavilion in West Nashville — enough capacity to run a full league night without borrowing time from open play.

🎽
Pro-managed, every session

Someone is always on court running the format, sorting groups, and keeping matches moving. It's the reason our sessions actually start and end on time.

📈
Open play beyond the league

Open play grouped by DUPR rating across three levels most days of the week, plus round-robin play for DUPR 2.75 and above — so there's always a game at your level, season or no season.

🫱
A community that isn't cliquey

Most people arrive solo. Competitive on the court, friendly off it — the reason our Google reviews read the way they do.

DUPR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED.

DUPR stands for Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating — the rating system used across professional and amateur pickleball worldwide. It scores every player on a single scale from 2.000 to 8.000 based on the actual results of the matches they play. Unlike a self-rating, DUPR is calculated from real scores against real opponents, so a 3.5 in Nashville means the same thing as a 3.5 anywhere else.
Create a free DUPR account at dashboard.dupr.com, then play matches that get submitted to DUPR. That is it — no test, no assessment, no fee. Your rating appears after your first logged match and gets more accurate with every result. The fastest way to get one in Nashville is to play matches that are already being submitted for you, which is exactly what our ladder league does. Create your free DUPR account ↗
No. Open play and round-robin sessions here are grouped by DUPR rating so you are matched with people at your level, but those scores are not submitted to DUPR. The ladder league is the one format we run where matches are logged to DUPR on your behalf. So if your goal is to earn a first rating or move the one you have, the league is the thing to sign up for — open play is where you sharpen the game you bring to it.
A self-rating is a guess and a club rating stops at the club gate. DUPR is arithmetic on real match results, so it travels — a 3.5 here is a 3.5 anywhere. It also weights who you played and how close the games were, which is why beating a stronger opponent moves your number more than beating a weaker one.
It can, but not the way people fear. DUPR looks at score margins and opponent strength, not just wins and losses — a narrow loss to a much stronger pair can leave your rating flat or even nudge it up, while a scrappy win over a much weaker pair can pull it down. Playing people at your own level is what makes the number settle where it should.
A rating appears after your first logged match, but it carries a reliability score that climbs as you log more results — most players find it starts feeling accurate somewhere in the range of 10 to 20 matches against varied opponents. Playing a concentrated block of rated matches is the quickest way to get there.
At The Courts at West Meade in West Nashville. Our open play is grouped by DUPR rating most days across three levels, we run round-robin play for DUPR 2.75 and above, and our ladder league submits official DUPR matches on your behalf — all on 12 dedicated outdoor courts with lights and a covered pavilion.
No. Plenty of players join specifically to get their first rating. If you are unrated, League Director Dan Maclellan reviews your experience and places you in the right tier before the season starts, so your first official matches are against players at your actual level rather than a random guess.
Players with an actual or estimated DUPR between 2.75 and 4.25. That is a genuinely wide band — it covers solid recreational players who can rally and keep score reliably, all the way up to strong 4.0+ competitors. The ladder format means you play people at your own level regardless of where you land in that range.
No. The league is built to be competitive and fun at the same time. A good share of our players are there to earn a reliable rating and see where they really stand, not to chase a tournament podium. If you can keep score, sustain a rally, and want your results to actually count for something, you belong here.
No — you register as an individual and we handle the pairings. It is predominantly a doubles league. If there is someone specific you want to play with, you will overlap and get court time together as long as you are at a similar level.
$90 per player for the full season — 8 thursdays nights of 6:00–9:00 PM play. That covers all match organisation, on-site management every night, and your official DUPR matches submitted on your behalf.
Both divisions are capped, and the cap is real — once they fill, registration closes rather than being stretched. The registration cards on this page show live spot counts pulled straight from our booking system.
Nashville summers being what they are, the schedule reserves make-up time at the end of the season. If a night gets washed out, play shifts to a reserved date rather than being cancelled outright.
